Job summary

Middlebury College is seeking a Learning Designer to collaborate with faculty across the curriculum of a residential liberal arts college. The role blends pedagogy with digital tools to enhance student learning and equity.

The designer will design courses, assessments, and learning activities, explore AI tools, and develop faculty development programs. A Master's degree is required, with Ph.D. preferred, and at least two years in higher education settings.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required; Ph.D. or other terminal degree preferred.
• At least two years of relevant experience in higher education teaching and learning, faculty development, or instructional design.
• Knowledge of evidence-informed approaches to college teaching and learning.
• Ability to develop relationships with faculty and work across disciplines.
• Experience with digital and emerging technologies, including generative AI.

Responsibilities

• Consult with faculty on learning goals and design and refine courses, assignments, assessments, and learning activities.
• Develop relationships with departments and programs through proactive outreach and classroom visits.
• Build knowledge of digital technologies and AI tools for teaching and learning and apply them where appropriate.
• Collaborate with Educational Technology and Academic Computing for deeper technical support when needed.
• Develop and lead faculty development programs and communities for ongoing teaching improvement.
• Support inclusive and accessible learning experiences for diverse student populations.
• Create clear guides and resources to help faculty implement effective practices and tools.
• Align new faculty skills with institutional priorities.
