Job summary

Northwest Nazarene University is seeking a Teaching & Learning Specialist to support faculty in strengthening teaching and student learning through coaching, observation, and development programs.

The role emphasizes designing effective course designs, aligning outcomes, and integrating faith with learning, using Canvas and innovative instructional technologies. Collaboration with TLC staff and ongoing professional development are key components.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in education, curriculum and instruction, adult learning, educational leadership, instructional design, educational technology, or a related field.
• Two years of experience in teaching, faculty development, instructional coaching, curriculum/course development, or a related educational role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching practices, including active learning, student engagement, assessment, learning outcomes, and instructional alignment.
• Experience facilitating professional development, workshops, consultations, coaching, or other learning experiences for adult learners.
• Ability to establish collaborative, supportive, and non-evaluative relationships with faculty and communicate instructional expertise with confidence and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Provides instructional coaching, consultation, and mentoring to faculty to strengthen teaching effectiveness and student learning.
• Conducts formative classroom observations and provides supportive, non-evaluative feedback aligned with teaching goals.
• Designs, facilitates, and assesses faculty development programming focused on effective teaching practices, including active learning and student engagement.
• Guides faculty in effective course design with measurable learning outcomes and assessed alignment.
• Supports faculty in integrating Christian faith and learning into course design and teaching practices.
• Assists faculty in selecting instructional technologies to advance teaching and learning, emphasizing Canvas and interactive tools.
• Collaborates with TLC leadership to identify faculty development needs and create resources and initiatives.
• Responds to faculty requests for teaching, Canvas, and instructional technology assistance.
• Supervises TLC technical assistants and coordinates course-improvement projects, including accessibility compliance.
• Stays current with research and technologies related to teaching, learning, and higher education.
