Job summary

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach online undergraduate Fire Science and Emergency Services courses in asynchronous format.
  • Deliver engaging online instruction that promotes critical thinking and professional application.
  • Assess student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate course records including attendance and grades.
  • Be available for student support through virtual office hours, email, and meetings.
  • Adhere to institutional policies, procedures, and academic standards.
  • Collaborate with departmental faculty to support student success and program quality.

About the Role

We are seeking a student-centered and engaging Adjunct Faculty member to teach courses in our Bachelor of Science in Fire Science and Emergency Services program in a fully online environment. This part-time role is essential in helping students develop the knowledge, leadership skills, and professional competencies needed for careers in fire protection, emergency services, emergency management, and public safety. The faculty member will be part of a supportive academic environment and will collaborate with colleagues for guidance and support related to curriculum, course expectations, and instructional best practices, ensuring consistency and quality across course sections.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection Administration, Emergency Management, Public Safety Administration, Homeland Security, Occupational Safety, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Professional experience in fire service, emergency services, emergency management, public safety, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or train adult learners in professional, academic, or workforce settings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to student success and inclusive teaching practices
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience teaching college-level Fire Science or Emergency Services courses, particularly in an online environment
  • Experience working with diverse and/or non-traditional student populations
  • Current or former leadership experience within fire, EMS, emergency management, or public safety organizations
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Fire Officer, Executive Fire Officer, Certified Emergency Manager, FEMA/ICS/NIMS credentials)
  • Experience using learning management systems and online instructional technologies
