Job summary

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) seeks a skilled Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs across city-owned properties, including the Sunset Park Campus in Brooklyn and related sites.

The role requires 5+ years experience in building maintenance, knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and a valid NYS Driver License; duties include preventive maintenance, inspections, and coordinating work with contractors, 24/7 emergency response, and snow removal when needed.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification is a plus.
5+ years of experience with working knowledge in maintenance, inspections and repairs.
Ability to use handheld and desktop computer devices to input work orders and record work
Must maintain a valid NYS Driver License with clean driving record
Working knowledge of construction and handyman repair techniques. Experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC and equipment associated with trades
Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and materials, and equipment associated with construction related trades.
Knowledge of New York City
New York City residency required within 180 days of hire

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and emergency services as directed, including electrical, gas, water & sewer, plumbing, heating ventilation and air conditioner (HVAC), domestic water pumps, carpentry, painting, masonry and general janitorial needs. Perform cleaning duties when required.
Conduct daily inspections of assigned properties and inform supervisor of any maintenance issues or repairs needed. Ability to work autonomously but also receive guidance from the Specialty Mechanic or Lead Mechanic.
Perform inspections and have familiarity with the functionality of the mechanical equipment.
When directed, provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel, including scheduling and coordinating work assignments per supervisor direction.
Monitor and report work performed by outsourced contractors.
Assist and escort outsourced contractors when required.
Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and external partners.
Report on repairs and projects with relevant stakeholders to provide status updates and ensure timely completion of work.
Respond to emergencies as required. Must be available and responsive 24/7 and able to assist with solutions during the decision-making process as issues arise.
Conduct snow removal duties at assigned sites
Assist the Specialty Mechanic and/or Lead Mechanic and learn new trades as needed.
When directed, provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel, including scheduling and coordinating work assignments.
