Job Title: Facility Manager

Location: War Memorial Building, San Francisco

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Reporting Type: In-person

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Facility Manager to oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and safety compliance of our apartment and office properties. This role is responsible for ensuring the functionality, safety, and sustainability of the facilities while leading the organization's Safety Committee to maintain a secure environment for tenants and employees. Additionally, the Facility Manager will drive risk identification and mitigation efforts, including ergonomic improvements to enhance workplace safety and comfort.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and chair the organization’s Safety Committee, promoting a culture of safety awareness.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire codes, and other safety regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and update emergency response plans and evacuation procedures.
  • Organize safety training programs and drills for employees and tenants.
  • Investigate and document workplace accidents, ensuring proper reporting and follow-up.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for safety-related matters with regulatory agencies and emergency responders.
  • Implement and promote ergonomic solutions to improve workplace safety and reduce the risk of injuries.
  • Supervise the Maintenance Technician team, providing guidance, support, and oversight of daily operations and safety compliance.

Desired Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facility management, safety compliance, or property maintenance.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience managing a team or in a supervisory role.
  • Experience managing both apartment and office properties, including oversight of maintenance operations.
  • Prior experience leading or participating in safety committees and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, fire codes, and emergency preparedness protocols.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and training programs.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of ergonomic safety principles and workplace injury prevention strategies.
  • Ability to develop and implement emergency response and evacuation plans.
  • Proficiency in facility management software and reporting tools.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements, safety compliance, and workplace safety best practices.

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to establish and chair a Safety Committee.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for safety documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and engage employees in safety initiatives.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Facility Management Professional (FMP).
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification or equivalent in occupational safety.

Employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week are eligible for all benefits.
