Fayetteville State University is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician-Building Trades Team Leader to assist in managing the operational tasks of the Residence Hall Building Trades unit. Position Overview

Facility Maintenance Technician-Building Trades – Building Trades Team Lead (Position Number: 001627, Department: Facilities Management)

Primary Purpose

The Primary purpose of the Facility Maintenance Building Trades Team Leader is to provide assistance to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor (FMS) on all matters concerning the operational aspects of the Residence Hall Building Trades unit. The Facility Maintenance Technician-B Building Trades Team Leader is to perform a variety of semi‑skilled and skilled manual tasks in the areas of carpentry, small appliance repair, and general maintenance.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • A valid driver’s license. Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record, preferably five or more years of driving experience with no more than one minor at‑fault accident or violation in the past three years.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Customer Service – Recognizes potential problems in service, addresses and resolves them promptly and respectfully. Demonstrates customer focus by seeking out, understanding, and responding to the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge – Technical: Advises staff of specialized grounds maintenance techniques and processes for use in unusual situations or problems. General knowledge of established grounds procedures and techniques, and special applications required in assigned areas. Ability to follow a daily work schedule and observe performance of a small work group, adjusting as needed.
  • Dependability/Attendance – Demonstrates dependability requiring daily attendance and commitment to full shifts. Reports to work daily at an appropriate time and submits leave requests at least five days in advance whenever possible.
  • Communication – Conveys information clearly, confidently, and with proper tone. Facilitates open communication, uses discretion, and demonstrates sensitivity to confidentiality concerns. Listens effectively, provides appropriate feedback, checks and responds to emails daily, and delivers written information to individuals or groups ensuring understanding.
  • Planning/Organizing – Plans the daily work schedule of staff by prioritizing the needs of the organization and implementing procedures to ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
  • Change Management – Plans and implements change initiatives, supports innovation and creativity, remains flexible to meet constantly changing and sometimes opposing demands.
  • Leading Work Teams – Establishes expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives of ongoing work for a group of employees. Motivates and engages employees through effective communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three to five years of experience in building trades.
  • Supervisor experience.
