Duties & Responsibilities
- Facility Maintenance (60%)
- Perform routine electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work to meet department standards.
- Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure smooth operation of facilities.
- Assemble and set up machinery or equipment.
- Perform repairs and paint work on roofs, windows, doors, floors, and walls.
- Submit work orders and coordinate with external vendors and university partners.
- Maintain work logs, equipment specifications, and warranty info.
- Communicate with customers about work impacting operations.
- Fiscal/Inventory Management (15%)
- Assist in developing and managing maintenance budgets.
- Manage supplies, materials, tools, and repair parts inventory.
- Coordinate surplus property disposal.
- Maintain inventory and tools in a safe, organized manner.
- Project Management (10%)
- Identify renovation projects supporting sustainable spaces.
- Develop project scope, specifications, and vendor relations.
- Work with construction management on large projects.
- Communicate project details to stakeholders.
- General Administration (10%)
- Participate in meetings and training sessions.
- Develop and revise standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives and reports.
- Maintain professional certifications and explore growth opportunities.
- Support onsite management and operations.
- Risk Management (5%)
- Assist in safety and risk management planning.
- Conduct safety inspections and maintain documentation.
- Obtain training for chemical handling, tools, and systems.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid VA driver’s license with ability to obtain VCU driving privileges.
- Experience in diverse staff and student environments.
- Knowledge of preventive and repair maintenance for facilities.
- Basic skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC.
- Initiative, problem-solving, and deadline management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer operation skills.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in various conditions.
Preferred:
- Experience with mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.
- Experience in a university/college setting.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
Other Requirements
- Occasional on-call, evening, and weekend work.
- Non-smoking work environment.
Position Details
- Full-time, twelve-month, non-exempt.
- Salary: $40,000-$44,000, commensurate with experience.
- Benefits include health insurance, tuition waiver, paid leave.
- FLSA: University Employee, Job FTE: 1, Exemption: Non-Exempt.
