The YMCA of Greater Richmond is seeking a mission-driven, enthusiastic Maintenance Technician to provide excellent maintenance service to the buildings and grounds at assigned YMCA locations for the benefit of members and program participants.

The Maintenance Technician must have knowledge of effective maintenance techniques and routine preventive maintenance, including familiarity with cleaning materials, supplies, equipment, building fixtures, and equipment. They should be able to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents, and perform repairs in accordance with YMCA standards, covering plumbing, carpentry, electrical, flooring, painting, plaster/sheetrock, landscaping, and housekeeping.

This position supports the Property and Facilities team in aquatic projects, including pool openings, closings, drain cleaning, and maintenance. The technician must operate custodial equipment like scrubbers, strippers, and extractors to support custodial staff. Responsibilities include updating records, reports, inventory, and work orders in our facility management software, and assisting with maintenance and custodial projects such as carpet cleaning, high dusting, and tile scrubbing. Groundskeeping duties include weed pulling, trash removal, and winter snow shoveling with ice melt application.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in building maintenance and repairs. Highly motivated with excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, emergency procedures, and maintenance management.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions; effective communication with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Some computer skills for using maintenance and facility management software.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to operate YMCA vehicles, and reliable transportation, as travel across branches is required.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Starting salary around $40,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
