PART-TIME Ground & Garden Maintenance Technician

About the Role

The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking a part-time Ground and Garden Maintenance Technician for RBHA's North Campus and Chelsea Hill locations. The North Campus is a 13-acre residential substance use treatment facility located in Highland Park, Richmond. Chelsea Hill is an outpatient services facility at 2000 Mecklenburg Street.

The North Campus Greenspace features open spaces, a walking trail, raised beds (vegetables and flowers), a Kitchen Garden (including vegetables, herbs, and berries), a small fruit tree orchard, rain gardens, pollinator gardens, and general landscaping. The space is continually developed to be therapeutic and purposeful, often through community volunteer efforts, grants, and organic practices.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate loves horticulture and gardening, understands best practices, is eager to learn, and has the skills to maintain and enhance this space.

Essential Functions

1. Develop and execute seasonal planting, transplanting, weed control, watering, fertilization, trimming, pruning, and mulching plans.
2. Prepare soil for planting in the Kitchen Garden raised beds.
3. Create and implement a planting plan for the Kitchen Garden with residents.
4. Assist staff and residents in planting, cultivating, and harvesting for Culinary Arts programs.
5. Seed starting.
6. Maintain logs of maintenance and plantings.
7. Maintain the walking trail perimeter to prevent overgrowth.
8. Maintain garden tools and equipment.
9. Follow health and safety regulations, including chemical application.
10. Collaborate on volunteer events and grant projects.
11. Monitor plant health and suggest remedies.
12. Manage composting.
