Job summary

The Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services in New York City is seeking a dedicated Porter to maintain cleanliness, safety, and sanitation across program facilities. The role involves daily cleaning, basic repairs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years’ experience as a cleaner /maintainer of diverse commercial space.
• One year of Trade school or Certificate program in a related field may be substituted for 2 years’ experience.
• A HS diploma or GED Preferred. Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing the English language at a HS level.
• Must be able to understand and process written directives and work orders.
• A Driver’s license is mandatory throughout the Porter (A) Level’s employment, and they must drive agency vehicles in the course of providing job related services when authorized.

Responsibilities

• Daily maintenance, cleaning, dusting of program offices, kitchens, bathrooms, common areas, elevators, lobbies, corridors, stairwells, loading docks, recreational areas, facilities, storage areas, workshops, etc.
• Cleans and maintains reachable glass, mirrors, architectural metal work, handrails, elevator saddles/metal, moldings, and cleans linoleum base on floor edges.
• Floor Care: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, buffing, maintenance of hard surface flooring incl. pressure washing.
• Use of cleaning equipment and janitorial chemicals safely and properly.
• Clean unit exterior sidewalks 18” into the gutter as per NYC/ DOS code.
• Responsible for snow removal as required.
• Remove garbage daily, recycle per NYC code, secure/store and carry out refuse for pick up.
• Perform light repairs including painting, wall hangings, changing light bulbs, minor floor/wall repairs.
• Move furniture for cleaning, events, and re-configuration as needed.
• Operate building systems controls (lights, thermostats, locks, alarms) and ensure proper operation.
