Job summary

The Fortune Society in New York City invites applications for a full-time Porter within Facilities. Located in Long Island City, this role maintains a clean, safe environment, handles restrooms, moves furniture, and supports daily operations.

You will operate floor cleaning machines, assist with fire drills, and travel to other locations as needed. A high school diploma and 2 years of cleaning experience are required; lifting up to 50 pounds is expected.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred.
At least 2 years of experience stripping, sealing, finishing, burnishing and buffing vinyl composition tile (VCT) required.
Experience operating light and heavy cleaning machines (auto-scrubbers, floor machines, burnishers, shop vacuums).

Responsibilities

Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
Service, clean and supply restrooms.
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
Gather and empty trash.
Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment to protect floors and fixtures.
Move heavy furniture and supplies using hand trucks.
Shampoo carpets and strip/seal/finish floors.
Deliver packages to agency staff.
Assist as fire warden during drills and emergencies.
Other duties as assigned.
