Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a skilled inpatient/outpatient coder to perform facility coding and abstracting for outpatient cases, including ED, Diagnostics, and Ambulatory Surgery. You will read medical records, assign accurate diagnoses and procedures, and ensure compliance with CMS LCD/NCD guidelines.

Responsibilities include maintaining productivity, using HBOC for coding, querying physicians when documentation is unclear, and ensuring proper facility E/M levels for clinic accounts.

Qualifications

• Must possess strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to independently review, interpret, and accurately code complex general surgery cases, resolve coding discrepancies, and apply appropriate coding guidelines while maintaining compliance and accuracy standards.
• Completion of a 2 year program and coding Certification from AHIMA or AAPC and/or graduate of a HIM program and Certification as RHIA/RHIT, and demonstrated knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT-4 classification systems.

Responsibilities

• Assigns appropriate admit, reason for visit, principal and secondary ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT-4 diagnoses and/or procedures by reading documentation present in medical record and applying knowledge of correct coding guidelines as appropriate for hospital service and/or patient type while maintaining quality.
• Maintains the minimum coder productivity requirements and ensures accurate coding and charging of clinic accounts including the assignment of a facility E/M level.
• Retrieves documentation to support coding from non-HIM source systems and assists educators with reviewing accounts denied by RAC and other payers.
