Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a skilled Medical Coder to perform facility coding and abstracting for outpatient services, with emphasis on Emergency Department, Diagnostics, MSF and other outpatient cases. The role requires knowledge of ICD-9/10, CPT-4, and CMS guidelines, while maintaining accuracy and productivity.

The position involves coding in HBOC and related systems, with opportunities to support education and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 2 year program and coding Certification from AHIMA or AAPC.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT-4 classification systems.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills for independently reviewing and coding complex cases.

Responsibilities

• 60% Assigns admit type and diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT-4 with high quality and productivity.
• 20% Code in HBOC system when documentation is insufficient and query physicians as needed.
• 10% Abstract data elements for UB-04 and hospital reporting requirements.
• 5% Verify demographics, correct account numbers and charges and identify missing forms.
• 5% Identify DNFB issues and forward for follow-up.
