Job summary

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is seeking a Facilities Technician to support operations, maintenance, and repairs for campus buildings and grounds, including light HVAC work. The role involves 40-hour weeks with some overtime and an 8-hour shift.

You will perform general maintenance, assist with room setups, troubleshoot building systems, and help with small carpentry, electrical, plumbing tasks, and on-call rotations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic knowledge of building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical).
• Basic carpentry skills and familiarity with building materials.
• Ability to use hand tools and work with peers.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to read and follow instructions.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
• Must communicate in English and be able to work some evenings/weekends.
• Requires valid driver’s license and physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and operate buildings and grounds, including light HVAC work.
• Perform general maintenance such as painting and room setups requested by staff and students.
• Troubleshoot and repair building systems and assist with small carpentry projects.
• Repair doors, hardware, and locksmith tasks; perform light electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Assist with minor office moves and preventative maintenance tasks; participate in on-call rotations.
• Climb ladders, operate tools, and work in varied weather conditions as required.

Job description

The Facilities department seeks a Facilities Technician to assist in the operations, maintenance, and repairs to the University’s buildings and grounds as well as light HVAC repairs. The typical work schedule is an 8-hour shift during a 40-hour work week. Some overtime required.

• Responsible for general maintenance including painting
• Completes facilities work and room set-ups initiated by faculty, staff, and students
• Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains the building systems and facilities as required
• Assists with the completion of small-scale carpentry projects
• Performs repairs of doors, hardware, and basic locksmith tasks
• Completes light electrical repairs to appliances, fixtures and switches
• Completes light plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems including replacement of fittings and clearing of stoppages
• Parks cars
• Repairs and replaces of glass, tile, screens, locks, drapes
• Assists in removal of snow and ice as needed
• Assists in small office moves
• Carries out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned
• Participates in the on-call rotation for emergency situations such as inclement weather or mechanical failures
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor

Required

• A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
• A valid driver’s license
