Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Facilities Student Associate (Work Study) to assist the Civil Engineering department on a variety of facilities tasks. This on-campus role supports staff in laboratories and offices, performing inspections, cleaning, inventory, and light project work.

Flexible hours are available Monday through Friday, 7am–4pm. The position requires physical labor and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds; backgrounds checks are required as part of employment

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions carefully.
• Capable of performing physical labor, including lifting and moving heavy objects.
• Comfortable working in lab and facilities environments.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with routine building inspections and report any issues to full-time staff.
• Support inventory management, including tracking, organizing.
• Perform cleaning tasks in lab spaces, particularly in concrete mixing.
• Aid in item decontamination and preparation for surplus disposal.
• Help with office and furniture clean-outs, including sorting, moving, and organizing materials.
• Contribute to various small projects as assigned by staff (e.g., room setups, minor repairs, painting).
• Safely lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds; use dolly or team member to lift or move heavier items.
• Support Building department's high-volume shipping & receiving operations, ensuring quality customer service to all departmental constituents.
• Surplus drop offs
• Other duties as assigned
