Job summary

System One is seeking a Facilities & Building Services Specialist on a part-time basis to support its Rockville, MD campus. The role covers hands-on maintenance of building systems, vendor coordination, and operations across labs, offices, and vivarium spaces.

The ideal candidate has a strong facilities background, 5+ years of relevant experience, and the ability to work independently with rotating on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 5+ years of facilities, building maintenance, or related hands-on experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, humidifiers, utilities, or similar building systems.
• Experience working with contractors and vendors in a commercial, laboratory, healthcare, manufacturing, or other regulated environment.
• Comfortable participating in a rotating on-call schedule with a 1-hour response requirement, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access rooftop mechanical equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for travel between facilities and on-call coverage.

• Monitor and troubleshoot critical building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, humidifiers, and BMS
• Perform facility inspections and help coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs
• Work with contractors and vendors to coordinate maintenance, security, janitorial, pest control, and other building services
• Respond to facility needs and after-hours emergencies during assigned on-call rotations
• Support day-to-day building operations, including office moves, workstation setups, conference rooms, and onboarding needs
• Assist with shipping/receiving, mail services, and general facilities support as needed
• Maintain a safe working environment by following established safety procedures, PPE requirements, and facility standards

Compensation: $28.00–$34.00/hour (+ $3/hour on-call pay)
