The University of Alaska seeks student employees to assist in sorting inbound USPS mail for boxholders and departments, receiving shipments, loading package lockers, shelving packages, and distributing packages at the service window. You may participate in department mail routes and help process outgoing mail, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

This is open to undergraduate students only. Position is pooled; applications reviewed as needed. Student starting pay is $16.20/hr.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at UAF with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment, or have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours.
  • Must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, or be a newly enrolled student.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 70 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Sort inbound USPS mail for boxholders and departments.
  • Receive and process inbound shipments from carriers (UPS, FedEx, Amazon).
  • Load package lockers and shelve packages for boxholders.
  • Distribute packages to customers at the service window and respond to inquiries.
  • Participate in department mail routes to support route staff and process outgoing mail.

Job description

Student employees assist in sorting inbound USPS mail for boxholders and departments. They help receive and process inbound shipments from UPS, FedEx, and Amazon for boxholders. Responsibilities include sorting letters, loading package lockers, and shelving packages for boxholders. They distribute packages to customers at the service window and respond to inquiries. Additionally, they may participate in department mail routes to support route staff and process outgoing mail as needed.

Any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the skills and abilities necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the job (see knowledge, skills, and abilities required above.)

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate professionally and courteously, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make appropriate decisions within assigned responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships and work successfully as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow directions and instructions from supervisors and coworkers.

Ability to safely lift and carry up to 70 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be eligible for Facilities Services student employment, an applicant must:

  • Be enrolled at UAF with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
  • Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
  • Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, or a newly enrolled student.
