Job summary

Wake Forest University seeks a Facilities and Safety Manager for the Graylyn Estate to lead maintenance, preservation, and safety operations across the historic property. You will oversee HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting, while designing and enforcing OSHA compliance programs.

This role balances daily operational excellence with long-term capital projects, budgeting, and contractor coordination to preserve asset value and guest experiences.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D plus specialized training with three to five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, hydraulic lifts, or in tunnels and crawl spaces.
• Familiarity with CMMS and automated Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Operational knowledge of OSHA regulations, fire and life safety systems, and workplace risk mitigation.
• General knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting repairs and installation as needed.

Responsibilities

• Directs daily workflows of the engineering and maintenance teams to ensure flawless operation.
• Handles personnel procedures including interviewing, hiring, training, disciplining, and more.
• Oversees the weekly work schedule and payroll for the Maintenance Department.
• Cultivates hospitality-focused culture within the maintenance team while minimizing guest disruption.
• Creates budgets, safety updates, and manages ongoing or capital projects.
• Administers fire drills, evacuation drills, and crisis plan training.
• Acts as liaison to Facilities and Safety Departments and oversees safety compliance for all personnel.
• Coordinates OSHA training and training topics such as fire safety, asbestos, hazmat, PPE, and fall protection.
• Maintains high level of employee/guest relations and follows upper management guidelines.
