Job summary

YWCA Kalamazoo is seeking a Maintenance Technician IV to ensure safe, efficient operation of all facilities in a non‑supervisory capacity but with hands‑on leadership of small teams and volunteers. This role requires completing preventative maintenance, resolving complex multi‑system issues, and coordinating with contractors to support major projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; Associate's degree in facilities management, construction management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive professional experience in maintenance or facilities.
  • Leadership of a maintenance project or facilities initiative (non-supervisory).
  • Coordinate and direct small groups of volunteers or temporary helpers as needed.
  • Advanced working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving across complex multi‑system issues.
  • Read blueprints, electrical diagrams, mechanical schematics, and codes.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Experience coordinating with external contractors, vendors, and utility providers.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks in various spaces.
  • Strong communication and collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Must pass background checks (criminal, abuse, sex offender).
  • Commitment to YWCA mission, values, confidentiality, and safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high‑level, multi‑system maintenance and repair across all facilities.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural issues.
  • Lead a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Interpret blueprints and codes to guide installation and repair work.
  • Evaluate capital improvements and system upgrades for leadership.
  • Lead assigned facilities projects from planning to completion.
  • Coordinate with volunteers or temporary helpers when needed.
  • Track progress, materials, timelines, and outcomes; report to Director.
  • Support project scoping, planning, and execution for renovations.
  • Note: this is a non-supervisory role; no authority over employees.
