Job summary

The County of Berks is seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform routine, preventative, and extensive maintenance on mechanical equipment and utility systems in commercial and residential buildings. Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, maintaining control programs, and coordinating with contractors to ensure code compliance.

A valid PA driver’s license and ability to read blueprints are required; the role entails on-call duties and physical work in varying

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
• Certification in two of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, boilers, or automated controls required.
• Minimum five years’ experience in building and facilities maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, AHU/RTU, chillers, pumps, and controllers.
• Inspect systems and document conditions to identify pending failures.
• Ensure automated control programs operate within parameters and across facilities.
• Collaborate with contractors and other trades.
• Maintain accurate records of time, work performed, and materials used.
• Respond to emergencies on a 7-day, 24-hour on-call system.
