Job summary

New Hanover County is seeking a Plumbing Trades Specialist to join the Facilities Management Department to support daily operations and long-term functionality of County facilities.

The role involves responding to work orders, on-call emergencies, and performing installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, steam, and waste systems. A high school diploma and 3 years' experience are required, plus relevant licenses.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of plumbing systems and repair methods; general mechanical principles.
• Reading architectural drawings; performing plumbing repairs and installations.
• Ability to troubleshoot plumbing systems and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Responds to work orders for repair of County buildings and facilities.
• Responds to repair emergencies on a 24-hour basis; on-call pool.
• Estimates materials and orders from vendors.
• Performs all levels of plumbing work, including installation and repair of fixtures and systems.
• Cuts, assembles, and installs pipes; tests completed work with water flow.
• Maintains logs and coordinates backflow inspections.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance; participates in emergency/disaster work.
