Job summary

Pierce County is seeking an experienced facilities supervisor to oversee maintenance and operations of county facilities and properties, including grounds and infrastructure. You will supervise a unit, coordinate work, and ensure projects meet standards while guiding contractors and staff.

The role emphasizes hands-on building trades knowledge, safety procedures, and training of staff, with opportunities to impact public service directly and learn through ongoing development.

Qualifications

• Seven years of work experience in building, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, construction, or related trade areas.
• Two years of experience leading employees (e.g., assigning and coordinating work; providing guidance and coaching; preparing work schedules).
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Driver’s license.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and operations of county facilities and properties, associated grounds, and infrastructure.
• Supervise and coordinate activities of a designated unit; determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and determine methods for expediting workflow; assign, review/inspect and approve the work of subordinate staff and contractors to ensure compliance with standards.
• Process work requests and prioritize, plan, and assign work orders. Coordinate activities with customers, staff, and contractors to ensure work is completed to standard.
• As the SME, review pre-bid maintenance and capital construction projects for required resources and for potential impact to buildings, tenants, and future maintenance and access requirements.
• Implement and monitor training programs for assigned staff; verify contracted service providers possess required licenses and certifications.
