Job summary

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations to oversee the Facilities Services Operations Division, including Labor, Grounds, Equipment/Vehicle Repair, and Shuttle Bus operations.

You will hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a dynamic team while managing a substantial budget and coordinating with other university departments to ensure efficient campus services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with substantial multi-trade/public works experience or equivalent (10 years)
• 6 years of work experience in a similar multi-trade or public works environment (or equivalent combination)
• Valid Alaska driver’s license and ability to obtain Alaska Class B CDL with passenger endorsement within 12 months
• Experience supervising union-represented staff is a plus
• Knowledge of OSHA, ADA, DOT, EPA regulations and safety standards

Responsibilities

• Oversee multiple units within Facilities Services Operations (Labor Shop, Grounds Shop, Equipment/Vehicle Repair, Shuttle Bus Operations)
• Lead hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of a diverse staff while managing a substantial budget
• Develop strategic direction and coordinate with other University departments to ensure safe, efficient operations
• Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards and uphold high ethics and professionalism
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive operational improvements and cost efficiency
