Job summary

The California Department of General Services (DGS) in Sacramento is seeking a Chief Engineer I to oversee operation, maintenance and repairs of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems within State buildings.

You will lead staff, prioritize service requests, monitor contracts, and ensure compliance with FMD guidelines, while acting as backup in the absence of the Chief Engineer II.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience within the last fifteen years in the maintenance and operation of a heating, ventilating, and air- conditioning system and related equipment in a large commercial, industrial, or governmental building or institution including one year of experience in supervising such a system.

Responsibilities

• Leading staff in operation, maintenance and building repairs of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical controls.
• Prioritizing and assigning staff to respond to service requests and/or emergency calls submitted by tenants.
• Monitoring service contracts, warranties of equipment and building permits using MS and/or Maximo.
• Attending job-specific trainings in handling hazardous materials or related topics.
• Maintaining records of evacuated refrigerants using Excel.
• Maintaining services, repairs and/or dispose of state equipment that contains refrigerant.
• Acts as backup in the absence of the Chief Engineer II at any regional facility.
