Job summary

City of New York Parks and Recreation seeks a Community Coordinator to support Riverside Park South operations in Manhattan. Under supervision, you will assist with program delivery, stakeholder coordination, and reporting, helping ensure safe, engaging public space for residents and visitors.

Candidates need a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in community work, with strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or related activities.
• High school graduation or equivalent with six years of experience in community work or related activities.
• Equivalent combination of education/experience; at least one year of the experience described above.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of essential community services for Riverside Park South.
• Develop and track the annual park maintenance budget with the Park Administrator and Parks Budget Office.
• Collaborate with NYC Parks and Riverside Park Conservancy to ensure park inspection and maintenance per contract obligations and safety requirements.
• Oversee horticultural care, maintain records, and develop a long‑term maintenance plan.
• Track expenditures, work orders, and inventory; coordinate purchasing and contractor services.
• Coordinate with Parks Enforcement and M&O to support public programming.
• Develop long‑term strategies for maintenance and operations of Riverside Park South.
• Provide regular status reports on operations, conditions, and funding to the Park Administrator and Riverside South POA.
• Assist the Park Administrator with administrative duties and maintain records and correspondence.
• Represent the Agency at meetings with Riverside South POA, Conservancy, City agencies, and community stakeholders.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in community work

High school graduation or equivalent with six years of community work experience

Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2; at least one year of experience as described
