Job summary

Jefferson Lab is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, operation oversight, and maintenance of facility mechanical systems such as HVAC and process controls. The role encompasses design work, A‑E coordination, and building automation system management.

Ideal candidates will have at least four years of mechanical engineering experience, a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, and familiarity with building codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 4+ years experience in mechanical engineering design and technical support.
• Familiarity with building codes and mechanical systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide around-the-clock maintenance, construction, and operational support for Accelerator and Physics operations.
• Perform mechanical engineering design or oversee A-E for construction packages; CAD drawings.
• Design, operate, and maintain building and industrial controls including utility monitoring and remote systems.
• Evaluate maintenance approaches for timeliness and cost effectiveness.
• Serve as the procurement officer’s technical representative on contracts; supervise subcontractors to ensure safe, on-budget work.
• Investigate, test, and inspect mechanical systems; collaborate to solve technical problems.
• Review A-E designs and subcontractor proposals for code/construction standard conformance.
• Conduct mechanical energy management studies to advance DOE energy goals.
