Job summary

Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) seeks a Skilled Trades Specialist IV for the Alfred D. Noyes Children Center in Rockville, MD. You will maintain building systems, perform HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance duties on second shift (10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.), ensuring safe and compliant operation.

Responsibilities include repairs, renovations, painting prep, grounds upkeep, and emergency responses. State licensing requirements apply; experience in trades preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Five years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding work.
• Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education or military experience for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs for all building systems to maintain the facility.
• Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment and fixtures.
• Carry out road repairs and walkway work.
• Apply plaster to walls and ceilings, repair surfaces and perform concrete work.
• Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting.
• Operate central air conditioning plants and equipment and inspect boilers.
