The Maintenance Supervisor position is a member of the Ocean County Library’s management team and generally works a 37.5 hour workweek that may include some evenings and weekends while overseeing the 21 branches throughout the County. This position has flexibility in setting own schedule to accomplish goals of the position. Exempt employees are salaried and exempt from overtime as their duties are executive or professional in nature.
The Maintenance Supervisor position is a Competitive Civil Service Title. The selected applicant must be either (a) reachable on an active eligible list or (b) if a complete list doesn't exist, successfully complete the Civil Service exam process and be reachable on the resulting list. Therefore the following must be met: Five (5) years of experience in work involving the construction or repair and maintenance of building and grounds, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
Knowledge of the tools, materials and methods used in the repair and maintenance of buildings, grounds and related structures. Knowledge of the methods used to evaluate completed maintenance and repair work. Knowledge of methods used to obtain, store, safeguard and distribute equipment, materials, and supplies. Ability to evaluate completed maintenance and repair assignments. Ability to identify and analyze maintenance and repair problems. Ability to requisition, store, issue and safeguard equipment, materials and supplies. Ability to supervise the maintenance, repair and servicing of buildings and equipment. Ability to provide assignments and instructions to staff and to supervise their work. Ability to maintain records. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. License: Applicants may be required to possess a valid license as an Operating Engineer of the appropriate grade, issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey. Appointees may also be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the required motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class and type of vehicles they operate, rests with the Appointing Authority.
