Inspires and Leads Properties/Facilities Team to ensure all council properties are maintained to high standards and ensure that campers/guests have an outstanding experience before they arrive and while they are on site. This individual is responsible for creating and executing a capital replacement and improvement schedule while also incorporating key learning experiences for girls related to property management and outdoor learning where assigned.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates and supervises hands-on maintenance and repair work at all council properties, ensuring properties are in good repair, hazard-free, and compliant with all applicable laws, American Camp Association Standards, and Girl Scout Standards.
- Performs maintenance in partnership with staff when necessary, including tasks such as tree cleanup, lawn care, vehicle repair, cleaning, moving equipment, construction management, finish work, light electrical work, HVAC maintenance, trash removal, painting, and seasonal tasks.
- Ensures facilities team assists program staff with check-ins, ensuring renters are safe and well-equipped.
- Responsible for hiring, training, and leading full-time and part-time property staff.
- Develops and trains staff on Emergency Action Plan/Disaster Recovery Plan at each facility.
- Conducts and supervises safety programs at each facility, ensuring compliance with hazardous material and jobsite safety protocols.
- Leads team in budget planning, ensuring facilities are maintained cost-effectively and safely within the approved budget.
- Organizes data collection on expenses and contributes to plans to minimize costs and enhance revenues.
- Trains and leads staff in managing subcontractors, negotiating rates, soliciting donations, and maintaining accountability, including lawn care, snow removal, asset management, and special projects.
- Maintains accurate records of work, projects, and insurance for each facility.
- Ensures work and maintenance areas are clean, safe, and organized.
- Maintains departmental records of time worked and projects in the management system.
- Attends necessary department and organization meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong cooperative leadership style, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
- Curious and willing to learn, with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and teaching skills, including explaining, observing, listening, assessing, and coaching.
- Willing to work on scaffolding or ladders for extended periods.
- Ability to prioritize maintenance and multitask effectively.
- Capable of lifting and manipulating up to 75 pounds regularly, with heavier weights as needed.
Travel
This position requires up to 50% travel, sometimes more. Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel council-wide (34 counties), including overnight stays.
Education and Experience
- Preferred: College degree in construction, outdoor education, recreation, natural resource management, or related field.
- Demonstrated leadership in construction, building maintenance, or natural resource management.
- Five years’ experience in camp management, facilities management, or building operations preferred.
- Knowledge of Girl Scout programs is helpful.
- Prior non-profit and/or camp experience is preferred.
Certifications
Obtain or be willing to obtain OSHA 30 Certification (Construction).
Work Schedule
Full-time, salaried position with a variable schedule based on needs, including evenings and weekends, with seasonal variations.
Supervisory Responsibility
Oversees full and part-time staff and partners with a volunteer committee reporting to the Board of Trustees.
