Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Facilities Operations is seeking a General Maintenance Trades Specialist to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations across campus facilities. The role emphasizes HVAC, plumbing, and electrical service, with strong customer service and teamwork responsibilities.

Responsibilities include reactive service work, preventive maintenance, and on-call duties. The position is fully onsite with a standard Monday–Friday schedule and a salary range of

Qualifications

• Several years of experience performing residential/commercial building maintenance.
• Ability to repair and service HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications.
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work with respect, professionalism, and civility.

Responsibilities

• Respond to service requests diagnosing and repairing building infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and miscellaneous components.
• Complete service electrical requests: lamps, ballasts, switches, and receptacles.
• Complete plumbing service requests: flush valves, water closets, sinks, showers, water coolers.
• Repair/fix fan coil units, heat pumps, and room air conditioners.
• Perform preventive maintenance on doors, fan coil units, room air conditioners, and heat pumps.
• Collaborate with staff to resolve problems and improve service.
• On-call during inclement weather and emergencies.
• Organize mechanical areas and shop.
