Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee seeks a Facilities Maintenance Worker to perform building maintenance, inspections, and restorations across several NY locations. The role ensures safe, functional spaces for clients, staff, and visitors with hands-on duties in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year of maintenance experience and familiarity with CMMS, work orders, and safety procedures; strong customer service skills are required.

Qualifications

• 1+ year in facilities maintenance or related field.
• Experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall and repairs.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and work orders.
• Ability to troubleshoot facility issues independently.
• Familiarity with hand and power tools and maintenance equipment.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties.
• Experience in residential, shelters, or institutional environments is a plus.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs.
• Inspect HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, and infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot issues and coordinate with leadership or vendors as needed.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and clean work areas safely.
• Support room turnovers, move-ins/outs, and improvement projects.
• Assist with furniture moves and space reconfigurations.
• Monitor spaces to ensure safety, cleanliness, and operation.
• Ensure OSHA compliance and safe work practices.
• Document inspections, service requests, and completed work in CMMS.
• Build positive relationships with staff, clients, contractors, and vendors.
• Support emergency response and life-safety readiness.
• Participate in regulatory inspections as required.
