Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Building Maintenance Technician B to maintain and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, as well as building furnishings and site improvements. This hands-on role requires strong problem-solving and communication skills in a fast-paced facilities environment.

With a focus on safety and compliance, you’ll perform preventive and corrective maintenance, read blueprints, and coordinate with contractors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years as Building Maintenance Technician B or 3+ years in HVAC/electrical/plumbing/carpentry.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Overtime and overnight travel may be required.
• Electrician or HVAC license or CFC certification preferred; willing to pursue.
• Ability to read, interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform general building maintenance and repair related to drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows and other related items.
• Monitor the work of, communicate effectively with, and/or assist others, including contractors, engaged in maintenance, construction and operation activities.
• Ensure work is completed in compliance with contract terms and safety rules.
• Perform general housekeeping duties such as assembling, moving, repairing, hanging and adjusting furniture, and assist in snow removal and lawn maintenance.
• Procure necessary quality parts and materials in the most economical manner.
• Maintain records, including inspection documentation, and submit reports as required.
