American Electric Power is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician B to perform skilled work maintaining HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, and site improvements. Expect on-call rotations, overtime, and travel as needed.

Strong reading of blueprints and computer use required to record inspections and coordinate repairs. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years of related experience or 3+ years in related trades, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years as Building Maintenance Technician B or 3+ years in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Overtime, weekend and evening shifts may be required; on-call rotation.
  • Must read, interpret and revise blueprints, drawings, schematics and specs; must be able to use a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general building maintenance and repair tasks (drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows).
  • Monitor and coordinate with contractors; ensure work complies with contract terms and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain records and inspection documentation; assist in snow removal, storm cleanup, lawn maintenance and inventory management.

Job Description

Where Putting the Customer First Powers Everything We Do! Schedule Advisement: Thursday-Sunday, 5:00 PM-4:00 AM ET On-Call Rotation: Required. Responsibilities for on-call support ensure business continuity as well as respond to emergency or critical operational needs outside of normal working hours. Perform preventative/predictive maintenance on, troubleshoot, repair, install and operate various types of HVAC-related equipment, emergency generators, and general building mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems in accordance with industry standards and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building codes.


What You'll Do

Perform general building maintenance and repair related to drywall, masonry, painting, ceilings, roofing, tile, carpets, windows and other related items. Monitor the work of, communicate effectively with, and/or assist others, including contractors, engaged in maintenance, construction and operation activities. Ensure work is completed in compliance with contract terms and conditions and in accordance with company safety, security, environmental and conduct rules. Perform general housekeeping duties as required, such as, assemble, move, repair, hang and adjust furniture, wall hangings, doors, windows and other office items, assist in snow removal, storm damage cleanup, lawn maintenance, spill cleanup, inventory management. Procure necessary quality parts and material in the most economical and accepted manner. Maintain records, including inspection documentation, and submit reports as required.


What We're Looking For

Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Building Maintenance Technician B; (Or) at least three (3) years equivalent experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or carpentry.
Assessment: Successful completion is required: This job requires \"recommended\" test results from HireVue Building Tech and Other Technician-Related Roles Virtual Job Tryout. This assessment is completed online, is untimed, and typically takes about 45 minutes to complete. Licenses/Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Additional Expectations: Electrician or HVAC license or CFC refrigerant certification preferred. Must be willing to pursue the certification. Overtime required. Overnight travel may be required. In addition, scheduled as well as unscheduled, weekend and evening shift work may be required. Will be expected to respond to emergency call out work. Requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather. Possess excellent verbal, written, organizational, problem solving and communication skills. Ability to read, interpret, review, revise, and correct blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications and instructions related to the assigned work. Requires the ability to utilize a computer. Physical Demands: Constant standing; frequent walking; occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, squatting, kneeling. This position requires lifting, moving and carrying equipment up to and in excess of 50 lbs. Work at heights. Requires the ability to utilize a computer.


What You'll Get

Expected Salary Range: $32.00-$42.00/Hr. (USD) Compensation Data Compensation Grade: SP20-005 Compensation Range: $30.53 - $38.16
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
