Job summary

Essex County College in Newark, NJ is seeking a Maintenance Service Worker to perform preventive maintenance, upkeep and repairs of buildings, equipment, machinery and grounds under the supervision of the Director of Facilities Management.

Open Date 10/14/2026 and Close Date 12/30/2026, starting salary $35,000–$37,000 with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, vacation, pension and tuition waivers.

Qualifications

• Experience with general maintenance tasks and ability to follow written instructions.
• Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and work in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC and other repair tasks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and upkeep of buildings and grounds.
• Move, assemble and install furniture and equipment as required.
• Maintain safety, confidentiality and prepare routine reports.
