Job Description Summary: Facilities, Buildings & Grounds (FBG) is currently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician (FMT) to help support the University’s mission in education. FBG is a part of GW’s Division of Safety and Operations, which maintains GW’s property and grounds on all three campuses.
Reporting to the Facility Zone Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Technician typically performs semi‑skilled and sub‑journey work in the maintenance, repair, remodeling, alterations, and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment. Position will be utilized as a general repairer when no immediate journey‑level tradesperson is unavailable.
These positions work independently in routine maintenance assignments or under the technical direction of a journey‑level position. They independently perform semi‑skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, welding and metal fabrication, steam fitting, electrical, mechanical, and machinist work. Under the technical direction of a journey‑level trades worker, the FMT may perform skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, steam fitting, electrical, mechanical, and machinist work.
Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
