Job Overview
Facilities Buildings & Grounds (FBG) is currently seeking a Carpenter to support the University’s mission and vision in Facilities Services. The position is part of GWU’s Division of Safety and Operations, maintaining property and grounds across all three campuses. Work hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm with a rotating holiday and weekend schedule.
Responsibilities
- Follow written job orders, blueprints, and sketches to build, restore, and repair doors, partitions, and walls to aid remodeling and alterations of buildings and offices.
- Build, repair, finish, and refinish furniture, including cabinets, bookcases, cornices, and paneling.
- Lay and repair linoleum and tile.
- Repair and remodel window frames and install window glass.
- Operate and maintain shop equipment and tools such as sanders, planes, lathes, power saws, and drills.
- Assign, inspect, and assist with work orders performed by peers on large jobs, ensuring safety standards and applicable D.C. Building Code regulations are followed.
- Assist with estimating the costs, time, manpower, and material needed for projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED plus at least 1.5 years of relevant professional experience.
- OR a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, conferred by the start date.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Valid driver’s license required.

Location and Schedule
Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C. Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Onsite work is required with a rotating holiday and weekend schedule.
