SOME (So Others Might Eat) seeks a Facilities Maintenance Technician to sustain the safety, functionality, and integrity of our Washington, DC facilities. You will perform routine and preventive maintenance across electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry trades, respond to work orders, and support on-call coverage to keep units and common areas in top condition.

Hourly range: $25.89 to $27.39 (may be commensurate with experience).
Facilities Maintenance Technician supports the Facilities Management department by maintaining the physical condition, safety, and operational integrity of SOME facilities.
The Service Technician performs routine and preventative maintenance, responds to work orders, and completes repairs across multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry. The Technician ensures facilities remain safe, functional, and aligned with organizational standards.
Sunday – Thursday, 10:30 am – 7:00 pm (40 hrs/week); On‑call responsibilities twice per quarter.
• HS Degree/GED; 1–3 years of Facilities Management experience in multi‑housing or residential facilities.
• High School degree/GED; 3–5 years of Facilities Management experience in multi‑site housing or residential facilities; previous experience in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or carpentry; previous supervisory experience.
• Must possess and maintain a vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and personal car liability insurance (contingency of employment). Mileage reimbursed. Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) Provider.
The employee works indoors and outdoors, performing maintenance and repair functions involving buildings, facilities, and equipment. The employee drives to and from different locations and is exposed to outside weather conditions, traffic, hot and cold surfaces and work areas, moisture, wetness, dust, oils, greases, fumes, and mechanical and electrical hazards. The employee works with various cleaning agents. Noise level is loud when operating power tools and equipment.
Chief Building Engineer.
This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during employment. Disqualification may result from marijuana presence in test results, even with a medical marijuana card.
Hands use everyday; hand, finger, feel, operate objects, tools, controls; reach with hands and arms. Frequently stand, walk, occasionally sit while completing records and reports. Talk and hear. Stoop, squat, crawl, confined spaces. Climb stairs, ladders, small stools. Lift and carry parts, supplies, equipment typically weighing less than 40 lb.
