Compensation

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $19.46 to $20.58 and is commensurate with experience.

Position Description

The Apprentice/Service Technician I, under the direction and guidance of the Service Technician III, will perform preventive and corrective maintenance at SOME-owned facilities.

Qualifications

Required: Graduate of SOME's CET (or similar) Building Maintenance Service Technician Training; Travel to work sites using your own transportation. (Mileage will be reimbursed)

Preferred: High School diploma or GED

Required License/Certification: Must possess and maintain a vehicle and a valid Driver's License, and personal car liability insurance coverage. This is a contingency of employment. The vehicle should be safe and reliable. (Mileage will be reimbursed)

Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm (40 hours per week); On-Call responsibilities twice per quarter is required.

Expected Contributions
  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled building maintenance duties involved in the repair and maintenance of SOME's buildings, facilities, and grounds; performs and assists in building maintenance tasks involving carpentry, remodeling, painting, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and a variety of other craft work.
  • Inspects assigned facilities for compliance with safety standards; reports findings to supervisor, and performs repairs as necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Assists with framing, rough, and finish carpentry to erect small structures, partition interior spaces, frame and trim doors and windows, and build or repair floors; hangs, repairs, and replaces doors and associated mechanisms, including hinges, locks, and dead bolts.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of plumbing fixtures, including sinks, toilets, faucets, and related equipment.
  • Performs routine electrical work; installs and replaces light fixtures, ballasts, and fluorescent lighting as needed.
  • Participates in the installation and repair of roofs using nail guns and other appropriate hand and power tools; troubleshoots leaks and repairs minor roofing damage using industry-accepted materials and procedures.
  • Operates a variety of hand, power, and shop tools used in the course of building construction, woodworking, and building maintenance, such as power drills, saws, drill presses, joiners and planers.
  • Plan work and travel to facilities to perform projects.
  • Completes basic records, such as work orders, time sheets, requisitions, and accident reports.
  • Assists with snow removal and after-hours emergency response.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Basic Carpentry: Perform minor repairs and installations, including doors, windows, locks, trim, and drywall. Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for routine maintenance tasks.

Basic Electrical: Troubleshoot and repair common electrical issues such as outlet failures, light fixtures, and circuit breakers. Replace switches, outlets, and light bulbs in accordance with safety codes.

Basic Plumbing: Address minor plumbing issues, including leaky faucets, running toilets, and clogged drains. Replace washers, showerheads, and other basic plumbing components as needed.

Basic HVAC: Assist in the upkeep of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Change filters, clean vents, and report larger issues to HVAC specialists.

Safety Standards: Follow OSHA guidelines and SOME-specific safety protocols while performing all maintenance tasks. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in regular safety training.

Technology Use: Utilize a computer or a SOME-issued cellular phone to: access and respond to work orders via a digital maintenance system. Receive and manage calls, voicemails, and text messages related to maintenance tasks. Document work performed and communicate with supervisors or team members in real-time.

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, type on a keyboard, and lift to 75 pounds with the assistance of a dolly or staff. Must be able to climb step ladders 14 feet in height. Must be able to climb extension ladder and scaffolds up to 50 feet in height. All duties were performed with door without reasonable accommodations. Travel to work sites using your own transportation methods. Utilize your own tools for work projects and transport tools to the work site.

Uniform/Dress/Equipment Requirements: Uniform provided. Safety equipment must be utilized, including safety glasses, gloves, and other protective garments as necessary. Proper footwear, including steel-toed shoes. Employees must possess and use their own basic tools to perform job duties.
