Job summary

City of Newark Housing Authority is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to uphold property integrity and resident safety. You will perform electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and appliance repairs, responding to emergencies and completing work orders promptly to ensure comfort and security for residents.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a NJ Black Seal License within 1 year, with 5–7 years of related experience in building systems and safety-focused maintenance practices.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent is required.
• Must acquire a State of New Jersey Black Seal License within 1 year of employment.
• Five to seven years of related maintenance experience in building systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the physical integrity of the property and ensure a safe living environment.
• Perform electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and basic appliance repairs as needed.
• Complete emergency work orders within 24 hours and urgent work orders within 48 hours.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and safety programs, stocked supplies, and records.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in standby rotations.
