Job Description

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) is hiring a Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities & Security team in Portland, Oregon.

Keep our health centers running. Put your skills to work. Make a difference in your community.

At PPCW, we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, high-quality sexual and reproductive health care. Our Facilities & Security team plays an essential role in making that care possible by maintaining safe, welcoming, and functional spaces for our patients and employees.

As our Facilities Maintenance Technician, you'll help maintain and repair buildings, equipment, and facilities across PPCW locations in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

We're looking for a reliable, versatile maintenance professional with a broad range of hands‑on skills and the ability to work independently. You'll manage a daily queue of repair requests, perform preventive and planned maintenance, and respond to unexpected issues that require quick thinking and practical solutions.

This is a great opportunity for a dependable self‑starter who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work, and wants to use their skills to support an organization making a meaningful difference.

What You’ll Do

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you'll work independently and collaboratively with our Facilities & Security team to support the upkeep, safety, and operational efficiency of our buildings.

On a typical day, you might:

Perform general building maintenance and repairs, including carpentry, painting, drywall, ceiling tiles, flooring, and fixtures

Troubleshoot and complete light plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs within your skills and training

Repair or replace furniture, fixtures, and other building components

Assist with diagnosing and repairing medical equipment, including exam tables, centrifuges, ultrasound equipment, and similar devices

Complete preventive and scheduled maintenance to help minimize disruptions to health center operations

Receive, prioritize, and track maintenance requests through our digital work‑order system

Communicate building issues, repair progress, and completed work clearly to team leadership and colleagues

Respond to urgent maintenance needs while balancing daily assignments and longer‑term projects

Travel between PPCW locations to provide onsite facilities support

Help maintain safe, clean, secure, and functional spaces for patients, employees, and visitors

Participate in an on‑call rotation for occasional after‑hours facilities emergencies

Successful candidates will be comfortable balancing planned maintenance with unpredictable, urgent requests. Strong time management, attention to detail, and clear communication are essential to minimizing facility downtime and keeping our health centers operating smoothly.

Schedule & Location

This is a full‑time, onsite position (37.5 hours/week) based at our Flanagan Regional Service Center in Northeast Portland, Oregon.

Standard Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 7:30am–3:30pm

This position requires regular travel to PPCW locations throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington for maintenance and facilities support.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance, and reliable transportation for work‑related travel.

The position also requires flexibility to respond to urgent maintenance needs, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or other hours outside the regular schedule. Participation in an on‑call rotation for occasional after‑hours emergencies is required.

Employees may be requested or required to occasionally work other days, hours, and locations to meet operational needs.

What We’re Looking For
Required:

High school diploma or equivalent

At least three years of hands‑on trades or maintenance experience demonstrating a broad range of skills, such as carpentry, light plumbing, light electrical work, painting, and mechanical repairs

Experience using and operating a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment

Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited direct supervision

Strong troubleshooting and practical problem‑solving skills

Ability to prioritize competing tasks, manage time effectively, and respond to urgent maintenance needs

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, high‑quality work

Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments

Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on‑call shifts as needed

Valid driver’s license and active insurance for work‑related driving

Commitment to maintaining an inclusive, respectful workplace and supporting PPCW's mission

Nice to Have:

Previous facilities maintenance experience in a health care setting or similar public‑serving organization

Familiarity with building security protocols and safety procedures

Experience using digital work‑order or maintenance tracking systems

Experience maintaining multiple buildings or facilities across different locations

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands‑on position requiring the ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, lift, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday. Employees must be able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds and safely perform maintenance tasks using appropriate tools and equipment.

Pay & Growth

$23.05–$33.57/hour

This is a represented, hourly (non‑exempt) position. The wage scale is established by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and starting wage placement is based on relevant experience and internal equity.

Most new hires start toward the lower end of the range, with room to grow.
