Job summary

UniFirst seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to ensure facility equipment runs efficiently, identify process improvements, and train maintenance staff. This role supports a Monday–Friday schedule with occasional night/weekend overtime and on-the-job training.

Responsibilities include diagnosing problems, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Strong mechanical/electrical knowledge and leadership experience are required.

Qualifications

  • High school or GED preferred.
  • Two-year technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum age 21.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must pass maintenance knowledge assessment.
  • Knowledgeable in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • 3+ years repairing industrial equipment.
  • Military experience considered.
  • 2+ years supervising maintenance staff preferred.
  • Maintenance administration experience required (planning, scheduling, budgeting, vendor mgmt, etc).
  • Blueprints/schematics reading required.
  • English maintenance literature reading required.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required.
  • Hand and power tools experience required.
  • Lockout/Tagout experience required.
  • Overtime availability required.
  • Lifting up to 80 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and determine corrective action.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Perform basic welding to repair facilities and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs and control systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on facility and production assets.
  • Follow blueprints, schematics, and manuals using a documented schedule.
  • Test boiler chemical and wastewater treatment and log results.
  • Manage and assign maintenance tasks outside regular hours.
  • Oversee all shifts in the maintenance department.
  • Ensure regulatory and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain safety within the maintenance department.
  • Perform Lockout/Tagout procedures where appropriate.
  • Monitor training status of technicians and allocate time for needed training.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Collaborate with Production Manager on budgeting for building/equipment/capex.
  • Train and develop maintenance staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
