Facilities Maintenance Specialist - Advanced

Do you have experience with facilities maintenance and like fixing things?

The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring a Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced. This position serves the southeast part of the state and will be headquartered in one of the following cities: West Bend, Hartford, Watertown, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Oak Creek, Racine, Kenosha, or Whitewater.

The selected location that the incumbent will be based out of is depended upon applicant preference and space availability. A work vehicle and all required tools will be provided for the selected candidate.

The schedule for this position will be four, 10-hour shifts per week. The exact schedule will be determined with the candidate upon hire.

Under the general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, Area 6 West Bend, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist- Advanced (FMS- Advanced) performs maintenance and repairs to building mechanical equipment including overhead doors.The FMS- Advanced performs advanced level electrical and plumbing maintenance and repairs, and maintenance and repair to HVAC units and controls, steam lines, valves and associated equipment.The position independently troubleshoots, performs diagnostic procedures and determines alternatives for repair or solves the requirement directly. The position performs maintenance, repairs and some small remodeling projects to the building structural components, grounds and pavement areas. In all activities, the use and coordination of contractors may be required.

Salary Information

Starting pay is $25.57/ hr.

This position is in the 03-13 pay schedule/range.A 12-month probation will be required.

The schedule for this position will be four, 10-hour shifts per week. The exact schedule will be determined with the candidate upon hire.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

This is a State of Wisconsin Civil Service position. The DMA does not require current or previous military experience.

Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.

State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:

Must have a valid driver's license

Minimum of two year's driving experience

Must be 18 years of age or older

Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:

Three or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years

An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months

A suspension or revocation of the driver's license

Must be physically able to lift and move objects in excess of 50 pounds.

Must be able to operate lift equipment and have no limitations for working in high areas.

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position will possess most of the following qualifications:

  • Experience / training in using hand and power tools.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial maintenance.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial plumbing.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial electrical.
  • Experience / training in commercial or industrial heating and cooling systems.
  • Formal education and/ or degree earned in electromechanics or related field.
