Job summary

The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department is seeking a Trades Helper in the Facilities Maintenance Division. This role supports Facility Maintenance Technicians and Coordinators, assisting with maintenance, repairs, and parts runs across City facilities.

Candidates should have at least a 10th-grade education, a valid driver’s license, and be prepared for training to advance to Facilities Maintenance Technician I. Excellent teamwork and reliability are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of 10th grade in high school; diploma, GED or vocational training preferred.
• One month of vocational training or a minimum of three months related full-time experience required.
• Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record complying with City Driving Standards.
• Occasional overtime may be required in response to department needs and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance and repairs at City facilities.
• Act as a safety observer on job sites.
• Deliver parts/equipment to repair shops and make parts runs for jobs.
• Clean maintenance and mechanical spaces and assist lead technicians as needed.
