Job summary

City of Portsmouth seeks a skilled tradesperson for building maintenance and repair of city facilities. Work under general supervision to perform carpentry tasks, use a variety of tools, and conduct preventive maintenance on city buildings.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma and 1–2 years of experience in building repairs, be able to follow oral and written instructions, and pass required background checks and a pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of standard methods, materials and equipment used in carpentry and construction work.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform medium physical work.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of building trade duties to maintain city buildings and facilities using tools and equipment such as circular saws, drills, hammers, sanders and planes.
• Perform preventive maintenance, identify repairs, and remove debris daily.
• Receive assignments from work orders, plan materials and sequence work, and prepare sites for repair or construction.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
