Job summary

Newport News City Redevelopment & Housing Authority (VA) seeks a skilled maintenance worker to perform general building and grounds repair, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and related tasks. The role includes preparing vacant units for occupancy and conducting preventive maintenance across facilities.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma or GED with substantial repair experience, a valid Virginia driver’s license, and is prepared to obtain CFC and HVAC certifications within one year

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and extensive maintenance experience.
• Ability to perform plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
• Valid Virginia driver's license.
• CFC and HVAC certifications within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Receives repair work orders, troubleshoots, and completes work orders.
• Performs carpentry tasks such as building cabinets and doors.
• Repairs sheetrock, walls, tile, glass, ceilings, and doors.
• Prepares vacant units for occupancy and handles move-ins/move-outs.
• Performs plumbing repairs and maintenance.
• Performs electrical maintenance and installs outlets.
• Maintains HVAC units and replaces filters.
• Performs grounds maintenance and cleans and maintains areas.
• Operates equipment and uses hand and power tools.
• Conducts preventive maintenance inspections.
