Job summary

A local government agency in Paducah is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to handle various maintenance tasks including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical repairs. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a valid driver's license. Description

Under direction, Facilities Maintenance Technicians perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of City facilities and equipment, including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical repairs, and maintenance. Maintenance technicians may coordinate with and assist outside contractors. Will perform other duties as assigned.

Illustrative Duties & Requirements:
  • Performs painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other semi-skilled building and mechanical repair tasks.
  • Preventive maintenance on the buildings or equipment.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with employees of the building in a pleasant manner.
  • Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner.
  • Create and execute work orders and maintain records of work performed.
  • Ability to effectively contribute collaboratively to a team effort.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Perform related duties and additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Completion of secondary education, plus one (1) year of vocational training or experience in semi-skilled HVAC, electrical, building, and mechanical maintenance repair work, or equivalent, is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to tolerate various indoor and outdoor temperatures and climates; perform moderate to heavy repetitive physical labor for an extended period of time. Ability to operate the internal radio system. Must maintain the physical requirements to successfully pass the Essential Job Function test as required for this position.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of methods, tools, and practices used in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building, and property maintenance and repair. Skill in the use of maintenance repair tools, and equipment, including small motorized equipment. Ability to follow general instructions. Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor. Effective communication skills. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
