Job summary

City of Minneapolis is seeking an HVAC and facilities maintenance technician for the Minneapolis Convention Center. The role focuses on operating, maintaining, and repairing the building's HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and support systems to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for guests and staff.

You will diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate with the building automation system, while complying with safety and licensing requirements, including a MN boiler license.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of post-school education in HVAC control systems.
  • At least 3 years of related experience with boiler license (MN Class 2-C).
  • Must submit MN boiler license with application.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and repair HVAC systems including air handling units, fan coil units, and related valves.
  • Maintain and repair high-pressure steam system for building heat and kitchen.
  • Provide operational diagnostics for building automation system to control temperature in exhibition halls, auditorium, ballrooms, meeting rooms, concourses, and offices.
  • Maintain plumbing systems including touchless toilets, urinals, faucets, and related fixtures.
  • Inspect and maintain emergency generator and fire sprinkler pumps; test dry-fire sprinkler system.
  • Replace extinguishers and assist with inspections.
  • Facility maintenance of operable wall panels.
  • Maintain and repair overhead rollup doors.
  • Maintain fleet equipment (lifts, forklifts, tugs, lifts).
  • Refrigeration maintenance (ice machines, walk-ins, fountains).
  • Troubleshoot low-voltage building automation systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on schedule.
  • Welding, soldering and brazing as required.
  • Keep time/materials records and temperature/pressure logs.
