Job summary

JLL seeks an Operating Engineer to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems on-site in Detroit, MI. You will ensure safe operations across HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, with a focus on reliability and energy efficiency.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in facilities management or engineering, strong problem-solving skills, and experience with building automation. On-site work includes safety and regulatory compliance, with comprehensive benefits from JLL.

Qualifications

• Education: high school diploma required; technical degree preferred.
• 3-5 years in building maintenance, facilities or engineering.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.
• Experience with building automation systems preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving and documentation skills.
• Compliance with safety regulations and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, HVAC, and building systems for safe operation.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of equipment.
• Respond to service requests and emergencies to minimize downtime.
• Monitor and adjust building automation, temperature, lighting, and energy controls.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers for repairs.
• Keep accurate maintenance logs and compliance records.
• Ensure compliance with safety codes and environmental standards.
• Assist with renovations, construction or retrofit projects as needed.
• Monitor safety systems such as elevators and fire alarms.
• Support sustainability initiatives and energy-saving measures.
