Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking a Building and Grounds Manager to lead a maintenance crew, oversee renovations of state facilities, and ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations. The role requires directing repairs, planning space needs, and maintaining records while working closely with the team on daily maintenance tasks.

The ideal candidate will have extensive construction knowledge, familiarity with safety and fire regulations, and the ability to read blueprints.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in building maintenance, building construction, in the installation and maintenance of building electrical or heating systems, or highway related experience.
• Substitution: Successful completion of vocational school training may substituted for the required experience through an established formula.
• Travel is required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct a crew maintaining, repairing, and renovating state property.
• Recommend alterations to existing structure.
• Evaluate and determine adequate operating space requirements.
• Ensure state building codes and safety and fire regulations are met.
• Establish maintenance and repair procedures to be used by all building maintenance personnel.
• Provide instruction and on-the-job guidance to crew members.
• Monitor work to ensure it is completed safely, efficiently, and correctly.
• Determines and makes recommendations for additional structural lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
• Maintain records and utilize a state purchasing card.
