Job summary

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the Supervising Civil Engineer in the Public Works Department. This role supports the Facilities Engineering Program, overseeing planning, design, construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of City-owned buildings and facilities.

You will lead multidisciplinary reviews, supervise engineering staff and consultants, and manage funding across multiple sources to ensure projects meet regulatory and budgetary requirements.

Qualifications

• Advanced civil engineering knowledge and leadership.
• Experience in design and construction management.
• Ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of facility and capital project funding.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary reviews of facility improvement projects to ensure plans are accurate, code-compliant, and constructible.
• Provide hands-on supervision and technical leadership to staff and consultants on design decisions.
• Oversee vertical construction and facility rehabilitation projects balancing scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
• Manage and coordinate project funding across multiple sources with Finance and external agencies.
• Ensure coordination among design disciplines and resolve conflicts across systems and site improvements.
